Learning Strategies For Effective Personal Goal Setting
There are varying learning strategies. This site is not an attempt to identify the vast number of learning strategies or
learning methods
that you should use in formulating your own personal goal setting quest. But instead, I want to provide for you and open your mind’s eye to the various learning techniques that are effective as you develop your goal setting action plan.
Just as there are many varying personal goals and objectives in your personal life to accomplish, so too are there are many varying learning styles in guiding you through your goal setting process for your life-whether you’re looking at various
language learning strategies
,
real estate investing
or
retirement savings
learning strategies. Just as you didn’t learn to drive the very first time you sat behind the wheel in learning to drive your car, so too are
cognitive learning strategies
, and the processes that you will learn to develop as you develop concrete goals and objectives for your life.
Brain storming Session: This is the beginning process whereby you start thinking of various personal goals in your life, some short term and long term in duration. You will begin to prioritize your goals at this stage of the brain storming process.
What are the top 5-10 + goals in your life? How do you rank them? This is for you decide and to determine. This may take you a few days or a week or more. The important thing is to start NOW and putting down on paper your ideas, goals, and dreams. After you have a long enough list, you then prioritize based upon immediate need. Do you have academic goals? The goal of owning your own home or your own
work from home
business one day? Put your thoughts on paper then decide upon the road map in getting you there.
After you have narrowed down your list of goals and objectives, start developing a mental image of what it looks like to have your new degree from college or your new home that you’ve worked hard to save enough dough to purchase. How does that make you feel owning your own home or your own business? Develop a mental image of your surroundings-the people who come into your life, the neighborhood you’ll be living in-the car you’ll be driving.
Creative Visualization:
is a very powerful force that once you commit to believing that you can and will accomplish your goals-you will do what it takes to realize your passion in life. Why? Because positive affirmation, coupled with the proper positive attitude in life put into action-yields positive results in your life.
Will there be obstacles in your way? Sure there will be. Will there be people who will be negative towards you and your dreams. Yes-that is for certain. The point is to stay focused and committed on your journey. You are both your greatest ally and enemy in this process. Remember that!
