What Does Contentment and Happiness Mean to You?
What is true
Contentment and happiness for you? And more importantly, how do you get more joy in your life and what is the magical formula for contentment?
I’m going to shatter a misconception. True happiness is something that comes from within you, not due to outside influences or stimuli.
Sure, your positive thinking and your positive attitude are all factors intricall tied to contentment as a whole, but it has nothing to do with your career goals or any of your successful relationships you currently have now or hope to have in the future. Some examples of widely accepted views of contentment are:
the scent of a freshly picked rose the smell of rain holding your newborn child for the first time your first kiss with your new bride or husband
Yes these are very happy moments/occasions which cause you to feel content at the moment which can impact your overall well being tremendously.
But I would argue, that these are temporal feelings of happiness and contentment which are conditional .
True and lasting contement and happiness that comes from within, doesn't require conditional reasons for happiness, it exists regardless.
This in turn can cause you to react differently to your outside surroundings and can positively influence your emotional feelings (good, bad, or indifferent) to react a certain way. But true contentment is not CONDITIONAL True contentment exists because of GOD from within.
But...are you only feeling content because of these outside stimuli affecting your mood-or are you feeling content inside regardless? There's a huge difference.
I want to challenge you to start thinking of contentment as a state of mind and your heart-emotional well being regardless of outside stimuli.
TRUE contentment is being totally thankful to God and content where you are right now in your life-not where you want to go. True contentment is unconditional, whereas the world view is conditional based upon things and possessions.
Another way to think of it is like this. Yesterday was a cancelled check, today is cold hard cash-tomorrow is a promissory note-tomorrow is not guaranteed. Be content and thankful of where you are in your life NOW-the present because contrary to popular culture and opinion- TOMORROW is not guaranteed for any one of us!
Myth Number 1. TRUE happiness is not dependent upon material things in this world. TRUE contentment is independent and exists without material possessions.
Quoting from a famous Beatles song: “Happiness can’t buy me love”, it can’t buy you contentment either. Being happy is something you freely chose to accept as your own; a GIFT or not. One cannot be taught in accepting something that you feel you do not have or not worthy of obtaining.
True Happiness and Comes From Within...
Having lived and worked in S. Asia for 3 years-India and Bangladesh really made me appreciate things in context of the bigger picture called LIFE. Here in western societies as here in the US, we have it all wrong, happiness, and success are "measured" and based upon the acquiring of material possessions (things), which is flat out wrong.
I’m not saying that possessions are a necessarily bad thing, things and the possessions of things aren’t bad, it’s putting things and possessions, your selfish motives, ahead of everything else in life and GOD and relationships which are really most important in your life.
Things and possessions are a means to an end only-and should be viewed in this context. Things never should be looked as a replacement or a substitute for TRUE and lasting happiness and joy which freely comes from within. You see, gladness and pure joy that comes from a greatful heart , a thankful heart does not require abundance of possessions to be truly greatful and content.
A truly joyful and greatful heart is content where one is at the moment–it does not matter upon status of your job or title, the size of your house or car, or where you live. True joy exists and will always exist when God becomes part of your life. As human beings, our emotional state changes almost daily, we're up and down-hot and cold God is constant, we are inconsistent.
Once you accept this universal truth for your own life, you will find that you are more content, and will be genuinely more happy and fulfilled. If you want to truly want to learn the secret of how to be happy and how to succeed in your life, put God first in your life. Once you accept this universal truth for your own life, you will find that you are more content, and will be genuinely more happy and fulfilled.
Remember: ”The only Unfulfilled Goals in Your Life are the Ones you Never Attempt”
