Take Hold of Your Employee Motivation and Job Goals Today...

Employee motivation and career goals have been mankind's quest ever since the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

Since that time, mankind has been destined to work all his adult waking life toiling day after day in the hot sun.

Man must work in the fields, in the various factories and offices around the global work-place, in order to support himself and his family in his quest to find satisfaction and fulfillment in his work in his self motivation quest.

Do you realize that most people during the course of a life time will spend more than one-third of their adult lives working either for themselves or for an employer?

That's an incredibly long time if you're not happy in what you are doing.

Have you given any thought to your long term business goals or your career goals in life?

Do you have an action plan that you can use in helping you in setting goals at work? How about your leadership development plan for personal and career development objectives for your future?

Basic Steps For Developing Employee Motivation and Job Goals

1) SPECIFIC -In order for you to have employee motivation, you must develop smart goals . SMART goals which are specific. This is really self explanatory but in order for you to know to know how to succeed , your goal setting activities and job goals MUST be specific, and both employee’s and management should be involved in the job goals and employee motivation process.

Nothing is more disastrous to an employee’s morale, self worth and overall self esteem , if you/the employee are not involved in the employee goal setting process. Otherwise your employee motivation is doomed and you will soon be discouraged and will soon be updating your CV in your resume writing , and mailing off your next cover letter for your next hopeful job interview that you hope to receive.

In your career development plan-let's say for example your company’s overall goal is to increase overall sales of product “X” during the next year, then those employees who work in the sales division of this company need to be involved in developing and setting goals at work in reaching those goals objectives.

2) MEASURABLE - In order for employee motivation to be realized, goals need to be measurable –Companies need to establish goals which can be measured. How can you gauge your job goals progress if you are unable to measure the results from your work? Make sure you can measure your job goals. Setting goals at work is not hard, but it does take motivation and self discipline to be effective.

3) ATTAINABLE -Ensure your job goals are attainable-If you set your employee motivation bar “too high” you do an injustice to yourself, which could cause you and your employees to harbor ill feelings and low morale because you have failed to measure up in your job goals. Don't allow your failures to take root.

4) REALISTIC -Management and Employees should ensure goals are realistic in terms of expectations. This is fairly self explanatory but it doesn't make any sense in your employee motivation quest to have a goal of earning an extra $3,000.00 US during the next quarter when you are not even earning $1000.00 per month now on your sales team. Again, for employee motivation to be effective-set realistic goals you can realistically achieve.

5) TIMELY –Job goals should have a timely (weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly)timeline for effectiveness and long-term impact. Implement sound time management tips to keep you focused and on track. Management and employees should agree in terms of time-line so setting goals at work can be met.

Employers really do an injustice to their greatest asset-(their employees) if they are not involved. Employee motivation to be effective, both employees and management need to be on the same page in order to have a successful outcome. How to succeed requires a collaborative team effort. Employees need to feel valued, and I might add empowered. Employee's need to feel valued, that they are part of a company’s overall solution rather than being made to feel they are part of the problem.

Employee Performance Goals

As part of your employee motivation, you should be thinking of specific objectives and job goals that you need and areas for self improvement , not only for your specific job but also for upward mobility and advancement with your company as part of your employee motivation agenda. Nobody wants to be stagnant in any job position. Identify areas that you need to improve in and make it a point to work on those key areas as part of your employee motivation plan.

Take initiative by approaching your boss and ask for new and challenging assignments as part of your career objectives. This will get the attention of upper management and potential promotion and/or salary increase because of your willingness to take on additional responsibilities.

Maybe, you need to improve in your business writing , for business reports, how to write a proposal , or how to improve in your business communication more effictively in general.

Seek out employee education programs through your employer that will permit you to take such employee courses for self improvement to further enhance your upward mobility in your company and in your career goals in life.

Organization

If you’re unorganized, take time before you come in to work or before you leave in the evenings to try to be a bit more structured and organized with your desk, with your files, both physical files and those on your computer or in your desk. remember, employee motivation begins and ends with you!

If you are unorganized at work in your office, your unorganized state reflects your intellect and mental organizational state of being as well. It may not be fair, but people will judge you by what they see-not what you intend on doing. Be proactive, take responsibility in your career development by demonstrating key areas to improve.

Timeliness

If you are habitually running late in the mornings, make the point NOW to leave earlier in the mornings so you can arrive at your job on time. Nothing disappoints management more than employees who are habitually late, and this sends a CLEAR and LOUD message to your employer that you don’t care about your job. If you don’t care about your job, you can bet your bottom dollar someone would love to have your job!

Prioritize Your daily Tasks

Make sure your day is structured in such a way that you always prioritize those tasks that need to be done NOW. Make a schedule of duties and break it down into AM and PM tasks and appointments that you need to do first in the morning vs those which can be completed in the afternoon as part of your employee goal setting objectives.

College Planning Goals

Employees need to take the initiative regarding any/all educational courses that become available that will help you not only to be more efficient in your position, but more importantly with the company as you move upward in the company ladder. Maybe one of your employee motivation goals, or job goals is to have and own your own work at home business.

Sign up and take all the continuing education courses you can in helping you to fulfill that dream in your future career development. But realize too, that for any educational course/class that you hope to take-must also be in your employer’s best economic and strategic interest. The fact you want to take educational courses with the soul purpose of moving up your company’s corporate ladder is not good enough of a reason. Before you approach your supervisor/boss and employer, ask yourself these key questions first.

What is the cost-benefit/strategic benefit to your employer by your taking this class?

How much time will be required on your part to complete the course?

How will taking this class/course effect your regularly scheduled work schedule or shift? If it will affect your schedule, you better have an excellent reason why.

By what measure will you be a more PRODUCTIVE employee by taking this class? And How will you benefit the company's bottom line?

With an ever shrinking global economy, you need to see how you can improve yourself technological and informational wise, so your skills are always fresh and current in how to set goals at work.

Always remember-the biggest room in your life is the room for self improvement.

Make self improvement one of your TOP employee motivation goal setting objectives in your career development quest in life.

You just need to develop a positive attitude , have a positive thinking mindset and to develop the hope and faith not to give up.

Remember: ”The only Unfulfilled Goals in Your Life are the Ones you Never Attempt”
