Language learning- has substantially changed and evolved over the last 30 years. Gone are the days when you would sit at your desk in school memorizing all the various foreign language masculine and feminine nouns, verbs and their respective verb tenses.

With the latest computer technology and access to the internet, it really doesn’t matter what part of the world you live in, you are just a mouse-click away for language study for any language study program. Language learning has progressed and developed to such an extent, that the learner or student is actually figuratively transported into the culture, language, and the region of the world that the student is learning-experiencing the sounds of the culture and being totally immersed in language study.

I only wish this technology had been available when I was in high school during the late 1970s. You can read my story (about me) here. I minored in French in college, but having lived and worked in India for one year and 2 years in Bangladesh, I have completely forgotten my French. However I can now speak, read and write hindi and I can also speak Bengali.

Why am I telling you this? It is not to impress you with my foreign language skills- hardly. I’m telling you this because anyone can learn a foreign language and contrary to what you may have heard regarding language study-it doesn’t take rocket science-just time and committment on your part.

Language studies does take self-discipline, self-motivation, and you must have a goal plan in order to make it happen. You must be consistent in time management , whether daily or weekly. Whether you spend 15 minutes a day or an hour a week is unimportant so long as you stick with a schedule and hold yourself accountable.

I personally own the Pimsleur language program Hindi, and can attest that the program has helped me in my personal language studies tremendously. I own the audio casette version with the Hindi language tutor work book-however they offer both CD and audio cassette if you have a preference.
